‘Tree of Life’ Chest
This chest, a traditional peasant household item, is crafted from antique oak (thermally treated wood). The painting is executed in a polychrome palette using silicate paints from the German firm KEIM, which guarantees colour retention for over 100 years.
The design is inspired by the style and symbolism of Ukrainian folk decorative art. Each element has its own profound meaning:
the Tree of Life or family tree — a symbol of the family’s prosperity and well-being; the tree’s branches symbolise family members; the birds represent love, unity and images of lovers;
the flowers in the form of solar symbols — the continuation of the family line and the life force.Also, the plant motifs feature oak leaves and acorns, signifying masculine strength and health. The flowers and leaves are stylised, without any attempt to copy living nature. After all, the main principle of the composition is the language of symbols.
The colour palette of the painting features rich, saturated hues that create a bright, cheerful mood.
The chest is exclusive and one-of-a-kind, as the artist creates artistic images inspired by her impressions and the historical and cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people.
