‘Cosmic Joy’ silk scarf

The scarf features Arkhip Kuindzhi’s famous work *Red Sunset*, on which the artist worked between 1905 and 1908. Kuindzhi was born in Mariupol and came from an ancient Greek family that had lived in the Black Sea region since antiquity. The canvas, depicting a sunset on the Dnieper, is considered one of the artist’s last great masterpieces. The original of this painting is housed in New York’s famous Metropolitan Museum of Art, whilst the original sketch was kept at the A. Kuindzhi Art Museum in Mariupol. In the spring of 2022, the Russians looted and transported this work, along with other valuable exhibits—including paintings by Aivazovsky, 19th-century icons and a Greek Gospel—to Donetsk. The current whereabouts of these exhibits remain unknown.

In collaboration with the Ivan Honchar Museum, a new silk scarf entitled ‘Kosiv’ has been released as part of the ‘Muzeyna’ collection. We have designed a print featuring a lamb and a meandering pattern. The design is based on a ceramic pot stand in the shape of a ram, featuring traditional Kosiv ceramic painting (1959), and a tile pattern, also painted by masters from the town of Kosiv as far back as the second half of the 19th century.The golden background of the scarf blends harmoniously with the green and brown palette, which is traditional to the Hutsul decorative style. This colour scheme will complement your chosen look without distracting from the main details, adding elegance and a sense of completeness.
