This multifunctional holder recreates a section of the map of the Chornohora Range — the mountain range between the two highest peaks of the Ukrainian Carpathians: Hoverla and Petros. The openings for incense are positioned at the summits, so as the incense smoulders, the smoke rises above the mountains like a mist enveloping the range.
The stand’s design allows it to be used in various ways: one or two sticks can be inserted into the holes, whilst a glass flask of incense can be placed in the recesses or the incense simply poured in. When a stick is almost burnt out, it goes out right at the opening — the small remainder can be easily retrieved by simply lifting the stand. The object combines functionality and landscape, transforming the simple ritual of incense into a little journey to the mountains.
